Visit to Padma Multipurpose Bridge Project (PMBP)

A group of faculty member from Civil Engineering (CE) Department of MIST visited Padma Multipurpose Bridge Project (PMBP) on 18 November 2015. The team had faculty members from various engineering discipline like structure, geotechnical and transportation engineering which was headed by Lt Col Moin Uddin, SUP, psc. The other members joining this visiting team was Lt Col Rezaul Karim, psc, Engrs, Maj Khandekar Sakil Ahmed, PhD, Engrs, Capt Jenifa Yesmin, Engrs, and Capt H. M. Imran Kays, Engrs.

The visiting team was received by the officers of Bangladesh Army involved in this project as Construction Supervision Consultant (CSC) along with other consultant from home and abroad. CSC team gave a very informative brief about the total project following the technical details and challenges that they are facing in smooth running of the project. The visiting team saw various methods of soil improvement on ground. There was a demonstration on the post tensioning of R.C.C girder which attracted the attention of all visitors. A Chinese team also briefed the visiting team about the erection and placement of expansion joints in a girder bridge.The visiting team was immensely benefited from this visit where they had a glimpse of the construction of pile casing. The pile casings were of 3m diameter with internal threading that were being manufactured in the site were-house.
