Department of Naval Architecture & Marine Engineering (NAME) Started its journey with undergraduate program from the academic session in 2012-13 consisting of 32 students. The NAME undergraduate program provides an excellent technical background for persons who would like to work in the field of shipbuilding and marine engineering. A career in naval architecture and marine engineering is very exciting, challenging and rewarding. It includes shipbuilding industry (commercial, private and defense related), Passenger transportation, Navy and Coastguard activities (offshore oil, gas and mineral protection) and Recreational boating and sailboat industry.
To produce engineers and researchers with sound knowledge on fundamentals of traditional, modern and emerging areas of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering together with innovative design abilities and managerial skills to achieve sustainable national development.
The Department of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering offers the following courses:

|a) Certification Course on Ship Design Software (MAXSURF)|
|b) Certification Course on Computer Aided Deisgn Software (AutoCAD, Rhino3D, SolidWorks)|
|c) Certification Course on Engineering Simulation Software (STAR CCM+, ANSYS, ABAQUS)|
The Dept of NAME draws its strength from the experienced pool of highly professional faculties. The dept is headed by the Head of the department and consists of 2 Professors, 2 Associate Professor, 5 Assistant Professors and 5 Lecturers. The faculties are drawn in from diverse nationalities, diverse prior professional exposure (Military, Industry, Academia), diverse educational qualification and background and thus provide large areas of expertise for students to benefit. Based on requirements, domain specialists are drawn from other educational institutes like BUET, research institutes like BCSIR.View Faculty Members
The Department of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering is home to more than 40 instrument facilities and laboratories, led by our faculty in the field of engineering and applied sciences. The instrument facilities and laboratories are available to our faculty, research staff, graduate students, and undergraduates. The department endeavors to provide its faculty members and students with adequate laboratory and other facilities, departmental undergraduate courses are laboratory intensive and post-grad students can also avail these laboratory facilities for their research and projects.
These requirements are catered for by following laboratories:
Students in Level – 1 and Level – 2 have to undertake laboratory courses (sessionals) in Physics, Chemistry, Workshop, Electrical Engineering and Civil Engineering too. If necessary undergraduate students can have the access to the facilities of other departments and centers during their project, thesis and research works.
Our Future Plan:
We are always in the process of upgrading our equipments to faciliate students with state of the art research facilities. These labs and equipments are constantly monitors by an Officer in Charge and an Assistant Officer in Charge for the upgradation and maintainenance process.
NAME Department library is on the 7th floor of Tower - 2 currently enriched with over 100 books and thesis copies of former students. The dept library so enriched that students and faculties can stay there in a good environment and study.
Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering deals with the aspect of shipbuilding and ship designing. A professional in this sector must possess a vast knowledge about building and designing any structure that has to deal with water. Naval architecture involves basic and applied research, design, development, design evaluation and calculations during all stages of the life of a marine vehicle. The main responsibility of a naval architect is to design and construction a safe marine vessel. The department of NAME organizes national seminar/ webinar on the ocassion of World Maritme Day every year. Leading researchers and industry experts from around the globe will be presented their opinions and the latest studies through papers and oral presentations. In addition, the department organizes various conferences, workshops and welcomed researchers, engineers, scientists, and industry professionals to an open forum where advances in the field of Naval Architecture and Ocean&Marine Engineering can be shared.
On September 29, 2022, the Department of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering conducted a seminar titled “Role of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers to Ensure Green Ship Technologies” on the occasion of World Maritime Day 2022. The seminar provides an opportunity to emphasize the significance of a sustainable maritime sector and the need to rebuild better, greener and more sustainability in the shipbuilding industry in the post pandemic world.. Renowned seafaring personalities, researchers, academicians, professionals, industry stakeholders from home and abroad as well as students participated the seminar.
Webinar 2021 (30th September 2021)
A seminar was held at Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST) by the Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering Department on 26th September, 2019 titled “Advances of Shipbuilding and shipping in Bangladesh” to celebrate the World Maritime Day. The objective of the seminar was to draw attention to the significance and future scopes of shipbuilding and shipping industries in Bangladesh by presenting related researches to the concerned authorities and dignitaries as well as taking necessary steps in that concern. The honorable state minister of shipping Mr. Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury was the chief guest of the seminar.
New students are always encouraged to join the team. It helps to have better communication with other students and faculties in the department.
