Industrial Training of NE-07

Industrial training is a vital part of Nuclear Science and Engineering (NSE) education, allowing students to gain practical experience and in-depth knowledge of nuclear facilities. This year, Level 3 NSE students received valuable training at several key institutions. They began their training at the Center for Research Reactor (CRR), Atomic Energy Research Establishment (AERE), Savar, where they explored the BAEC TRIGA research reactor, learning about its operations and experimenting with control rod worth. The students then received hands-on training in Non-Destructive Testing at the Non-Destructive Testing Division of the Atomic Energy Center in Dhaka, gaining expertise in important diagnostic techniques. The training also included a visit to the Nuclear Medicine Center at the Combined Military Hospital, Dhaka Cantonment, where they learned about the application of nuclear technology in healthcare. To further broaden their understanding of energy production and transmission, the students visited the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant—Bangladesh's first nuclear power plant—and the Siddhirganj 335MW Combined Cycle Power Plant (CCPP).

In addition, the students visited two key institutions with distinct contributions to Bangladesh's development: the Bangladesh Institute of Nuclear Agriculture (BINA) and the Bangladesh Industrial Technical Assistance Center (BITAC). At BINA, located in Mymensingh, students learned about the use of nuclear techniques in agriculture, including crop improvement through nuclear irradiation, pest control using radiation, and food preservation methods. BINA's work in enhancing soil fertility and boosting food security through nuclear science was an eye-opener for students, showing them the diverse applications of nuclear technology beyond energy. On the other hand, the visit to BITAC, under the Ministry of Industries, provided insights into industrial automation, energy efficiency, and instrumentation. BITAC plays a crucial role in optimizing industrial systems, including energy production facilities like power plants, through advanced technology and calibration services. This experience gave students a deeper understanding of the critical role technology plays in managing and optimizing energy systems, especially in large-scale energy plants.

These visits allowed NSE students to see the broader applications of nuclear science and technology, both in agriculture and industry, enriching their knowledge and preparing them to contribute to Bangladesh's development in diverse sectors.
